Moving to Georgia and wondering where to live in Atlanta? Let’s take a look at the city of Milton, Georgia. There are a lot of pros to living in Milton, but definitely a couple of cons!

If you live in Atlanta, you know that everyone wants to move to Milton, GA. Newly incorporated in 2006, it’s located in a beautiful, rural setting with loads of gorgeous farmhouses. It’s a smaller city located about 30 minutes north of Atlanta and bordered by the cities of Roswell and Alpharetta.

So what’s there to like and not to like in the city of Milton, Georgia?

PRO #1 One of the pros is its beautiful scenery. It’s known for its rural and equestrian heritage. Conservation of wildlife habitat and natural areas is a priority so residents can enjoy nature, parks, and walking trails without large developments or buildings.

PRO #2 Lot sizes. One thing that adds to Milton’s appeal is that homes are built on larger lots – 1 acre or more – so there’s more space to play, build a pool, or entertain. Working horse farms can also be found all over the city of Milton, Georgia which adds to the peaceful, beautiful scenery around every corner. Though there are a lot of horse farms, there are still many close knit subdivisions too. The difference is that home lots in these subdivisions are a bit more spacious than in other surrounding suburbs.

Working horse farms can be found all over the city of Milton, GA.

PRO #3 Another pro is that it’s a great place to raise a family. With minimal crime and traffic, Milton was rated one of the safest cities in Georgia by safewise.com in 2021. And according to Niche.com it was rated the fourth best place to raise a family in Georgia.

PRO #4 Excellent Schools are another pro in the city of Milton, Georgia.  Both Milton and Cambridge High schools are among the best in the state, rated in the top 10 schools of Georgia according to Niche.com.  Elementary and Middle schools are also highly rated, and there are multiple excellent private schools.

PRO #5 If you enjoy books, the Milton Library is another pro. It’s not your average old school library. It’s a beautiful state-of-the-art building inspired by the equestrian and agricultural character of the area. It features floor to ceiling windows, rows and rows of books, and bright, wide open reading spaces. You can even cozy up with a book by the library’s fireplace! When have you ever seen a fireplace in a library?!

What about shopping and dining in Milton? This next one could be a PRO or CON – you decide!

If you like more shopping and dining options it could be a con. There are no extra-large shopping and dining destinations like the many- acre, mixed-use facilities at Avalon and Halcyon. However, both those properties are just a few miles away in nearby Alpharetta.

It could be a pro if you like smaller, quaint shopping and dining areas. Crabapple Market is the shopping and dining district in Milton and contributes to the small town feel and simpler way of life that is Milton. It’s a place to enjoy a stroll, or time out with friends and family. Connected by walkways and trails, you can enjoy a meal at a locally owned restaurant or shop at one of the mom and pop businesses or boutiques. The Green is also a fun place for friends and family to relax, throw a ball or just hang out.

One of the biggest cons to note about living in the city of Milton, Georgia is that it is expensive. In 2021, the median sales price for homes was around $900K.  It’s one of the wealthiest cities in Georgia. And since it’s Fulton County, taxes are higher than other counties as well.
